What’s one thing you own that holds deep sentimental value?
One thing I own that holds deep sentimental value is a star constellation pendant engraved with the coordinates of where Bridger and I met up to go to a concert.
We were friends then. That concert marked the turning point from friendship to something more, and those coordinates mark where we met at the beginning.
I love that a place can mean so much to two people while being perfectly ordinary to everyone else. Someone could pass through that exact spot without giving it a second thought. For us, it belongs to the story of how we became a couple.
Looking back, I wonder how much we understood that night about what was changing. There is something tender about remembering someone as your friend when you now know them as your husband. The memory holds both versions of you: the people you were when you met, and the people who would eventually look back and recognize the beginning.
That is what makes the pendant so precious to me. It gives that memory a small, tangible place in my life. I can hold it in my hand and think, There. That was where we met that night.
Of all the places in the world, I have the coordinates to that one.
The concert ended. Our story kept going.
