Growth has a quiet way of revealing itself.
Not in the big milestones.
But in the things that no longer keep us awake at night.
I used to think the answer to this question would be something ordinary.
It wasn’t.
Then it came to me.
I used to worry that I would never become the person I imagined I was supposed to be.
For a long time, I believed there was a version of me waiting on the other side of healing. Someone untouched by pain. Someone whose story wasn’t marked by loss or disappointment. Someone who finally felt whole.
But the truth is, much of my life has been shaped by difficult seasons.
There was no perfect version of me waiting for me in the past.
There was no life I could return to where everything had been untouched.
There was only the person I was becoming.
Somewhere along the way, I stopped trying to undo the chapters that shaped me.
Instead, I began asking a different question.
What if healing wasn’t about going back?
What if it was about moving forward with a softer heart, wiser hands, and a deeper understanding of what it means to keep choosing hope?
These days, I don’t worry about becoming who I thought I was supposed to be.
I’m far more interested in becoming someone who notices the person standing alone.
Someone who offers kindness before judgment.
Someone who isn’t afraid to begin again.
Someone who understands that our scars don’t disqualify us from a beautiful life—they simply remind us how much we’ve survived.
Maybe that’s what growth has been quietly teaching me all along.
Not how to become the person I once imagined.
But how to love the person I am still becoming.
And somehow…
That feels like freedom.
