What are some life hacks that you practice?

When I hear “life hacks,” I picture someone folding a fitted sheet into a tidy little square.
I’m happy for that person. I have questions, but I’m happy for them.
The small things that help me tend to be much less impressive on camera.
I’m learning to ask a simple question: What would make this one thing a little easier?
Sometimes the answer is letting the task be smaller.
A paragraph can be the writing for today. One corner can be the part that gets tidied. I can stop treating every small beginning as a contract to finish the entire thing immediately.
This is particularly useful for a mind that can turn “I have an idea” into a seventeen-part project before the coffee gets cold.
Sometimes the answer is choosing an easier way to connect.
A text can carry love. A short message can say, “I’m thinking of you.” I’m learning to let that count, especially when a phone call feels like more than I have available.
And sometimes the answer is sitting down.
I wish this sounded more revolutionary. There should probably be a dramatic reveal and a very organized woman pointing at a chair.
But I am still practicing the ordinary kindness of resting when I need to, and allowing something to wait without turning it into a judgment about who I am.
I also want to leave room for small pleasures while the unfinished things are still unfinished. A familiar song. A quiet moment by the window. A cup of coffee I remember to drink while it is warm.
There will usually be something else to do.
I’m learning that I can enjoy a little of my life before I get to the bottom of the list.
None of this is a system I have perfected. Some days I remember. Some days I make something unnecessarily complicated and have to laugh when I notice.
But this is the thought I want to keep close:
Making things easier is a way of caring for myself.
