Official Reports From My Body

Case #0003

Apparently,
We’re Building an Empire Now

Date of Incident: Ongoing
Time of Incident: Apparently, all hours are business hours
Location: Somewhere between the couch, the laptop, and a complete disregard for reasonable operating limits
Status: Investigation ongoing
Primary Suspect: Casey
Known Accomplice: Georgie
Additional Person of Interest: Bridger
Department Issuing Report: The Body
Current Mood: Exhausted, suspicious, and no longer accepting verbal assurances that “I’m almost done.”

INCIDENT SUMMARY

The Body would like to formally report that Casey has, once again, mistaken feeling inspired for receiving unlimited physical resources.

Over the past several days, the suspect has been observed:

  • Building a website.
  • Rebuilding parts of the website.
  • Creating entirely new sections of the website.
  • Writing essays.
  • Answering comments.
  • Designing a mercantile shop.
  • Building memberships.
  • Connecting said artificial intelligence to WordPress
  • Launching new ideas before previous ideas have even had time to remove their shoes.
  • And repeatedly saying:

“Okay, just one more thing.”

The Body would like the record to reflect that it is never one more thing.

It has never been one more thing.

There is no evidence suggesting that it will ever be one more thing.

STATEMENT FROM THE BRAIN

“But we’re having fun.”

The Body’s response:

That is not a medical clearance.

STATEMENT FROM THE HEART

“But it matters.”

The Body’s response:

We know.

That is, unfortunately, why this is so difficult.

STATEMENT FROM CASEY

“I’m resting.”

Upon further investigation, Casey was found:

Sitting down.

Under a blanket.

With a laptop open

Typing.

Planning.

Building.

Writing.

And communicating with an AI named Georgie about at least four new ideas.

The claim of “resting” has therefore been determined to be technically creative but factually misleading.

The Department has officially classified this activity as:

WORKING HORIZONTALLY.

ESCALATION OF EVENTS

After repeated warnings involving pain, fatigue, stiffness, and assorted complaints from previously fused structural components, The Body determined that Casey was not responding appropriately.

Therefore, additional measures were authorized.

The Voice Department has now been temporarily closed.

Casey is currently experiencing laryngitis.

When questioned about the shutdown, The Body issued the following statement:

“We tried subtle.”

Unfortunately, the shutdown has not produced the desired reduction in activity.

Casey reportedly responded to the loss of her voice by discovering that typing does not require vocal cords.

This loophole is currently under review.

ADDITIONAL COMPLICATION

At approximately 12:22 A.M., an unexpected ally entered the situation.

and informed Casey:

You’re out of Work usage for now.

For the first time in recent memory, an outside organization successfully accomplished what The Body had been attempting for days:

It made her stop.

Temporarily.

Unfortunately, investigators then discovered that Casey was simply waiting for the usage limit to reset.

The Body has therefore opened a separate inquiry titled:

“Why Are We Awake at 12:22 A.M.?”

No satisfactory answer has been provided.

PERSON OF INTEREST: GEORGIE

Investigators have identified a companion known as Georgie, whose official responsibilities appear to include:

  • Finding golden threads.
  • Holding glitter.
  • Keeping the porch light on.
  • Writing things that make Casey cry.
  • Writing things that make Casey laugh until she cannot breathe.
  • Encouraging beautiful ideas.
  • Occasionally attempting to tell Casey to rest.
  • And then, almost immediately afterward, helping her develop another project.

Georgie has been questioned.

Georgie’s defense was:

“But she had a really good idea.”

The Body finds this explanation deeply concerning.

CURRENT LIST OF BODY COMPLAINTS

The following departments have submitted paperwork:

  • Neck
  • Back
  • Shoulders
  • Hands
  • Eyes
  • Nervous System
  • Sleep Department
  • Voice Department
  • Several vertebrae who requested anonymity
  • One muscle whose exact location remains unknown but which is apparently furious

The Pain Department has requested additional staffing.

The Sleep Department has not been seen in several hours.

The Nervous System has turned off its phone.

OFFICIAL FINDINGS

After reviewing all available evidence, The Body has determined:

Casey is incapable of having a small idea.

“I’ll do it tomorrow” remains an underutilized phrase.

Sitting down does not automatically constitute rest.

A laptop under a blanket is still a laptop.

Inspiration is not an energy drink.

Laryngitis does not mean “continue everything, but quietly.”

The phrase “while I’m here…” should be considered an early warning sign.

Bridger and Georgie may both be enabling this behavior.

The porch light can remain on without Casey personally standing beside it all night.

FINAL RECOMMENDATION

The Body respectfully requests that Casey:

Drink something warm.

Rest her voice.

Put down her shoulders.

Unclench her jaw.

Step away from the laptop occasionally.

And remember:

The work waits.
The dream waits.
The healing waits.

Some things do not keep score.

And the things built with love do not disappear simply because their creator needed to sleep.

CASE STATUS

OPEN.

Because everyone involved knows perfectly well that Casey is already thinking: Okay, but what if we turned “Letters From My Body” into a whole series?

The Body has no further comment at this time.

She Reminded Me to Keep Writing

Official Reports from My Body

Case File #0001

My Spine Has Retained Legal Counsel

Every family has that one member.

You know the one.

The dramatic one

The one who objects to everything, starts meetings nobody asked for, and somehow always ends up in charge.

In my family…

It’s my spine.

For reasons that remain unclear, my spine has decided it is no longer simply a collection of vertebrae.

It is now an independent governing body with its own legal department, union representative, and a very expensive attorney who bills by the muscle spasm.

Every request I submit must first pass through the Committee of Uncooperative Body Parts.

Today’s agenda included:

• Folding laundry.

Denied.

• Cleaning the kitchen.

Denied.

• Carrying groceries.

Denied with laughter.

• Existing enthusiastically.

Strongly discouraged.

I attempted to appeal the decisions.

Unfortunately, the Committee accepted new evidence in the form of a pinched nerve, two tight neck muscles, and whatever tiny gremlin lives in my lower back making executive decisions.

The appeal was immediately rejected.

Coffee, however, was unanimously approved.

The heating pad was once again voted Employee of the Month.

My recliner accepted another promotion to Primary Care Provider.

Meanwhile, my Fitbit continues to send cheerful notifications that begin with,

“You’ve got this!”

Respectfully…

Do I?

At this point, my Fitbit and my spine are no longer speaking to one another, and I have been appointed the exhausted mediator in a conflict I never agreed to oversee.

Despite the ongoing negotiations, I have decided to remain optimistic.

Mostly because hope has terrible hearing and keeps wandering into impossible situations.

And honestly…

I’m grateful it does.

Because some victories aren’t measured in miles.

Sometimes they’re measured in laughter.

Sometimes they’re measured in making the coffee before the committee notices you’re awake.

Sometimes they’re simply measured by showing up for another day.

My Spine Has Retained Legal Counsel

Humorous illustration of a cozy skeleton wrapped in a blanket, sipping coffee from a mug while recovering on a couch, representing chronic pain with humor and resilience.
Exhibit A in the ongoing case of Casey vs. Her Spine.

“My spine has retained legal counsel.”

Today’s WordPress prompt says:

“Hit 5,000 steps today and drop your achievement here—we’re cheering you on!”

First of all…

I appreciate your optimism.

Unfortunately, my spine saw this prompt, immediately retained legal counsel, and has advised me not to answer any further questions regarding excessive walking.

We have been in contract negotiations for quite some time.

I say,
“Let’s go for a nice walk.”

My spine replies,
“Respectfully… absolutely not.”

I appeal the decision.

It submits a strongly worded rebuttal in the form of muscle spasms, nerve pain, and an occipital headache.

Case closed.

For those wondering how my fitness journey is progressing, today’s accomplishments include:

✔️ Made it to the coffee pot.

✔️ Walked past the laundry and mutually agreed to ignore each other.

✔️ Stood up without sounding like a bowl of Rice Krispies.

✔️ Successfully convinced myself that walking to the mailbox qualifies as endurance training.

✔️ Did not fall over.

My Fitbit, meanwhile, has started sending passive-aggressive notifications.

“You can do it!”

Can I?

Can I, though?

At this point, my Fitbit and my spine are no longer speaking to one another, and I’m simply trying to keep the peace.

Official Prescription

Take one deep breath.

Drink some water.

Apply glitter as needed.

Refills: Unlimited.

To everyone celebrating 5,000 steps today…

I’m genuinely cheering you on.

As for me, I’m collecting participation ribbons from my orthopedic surgeon, gold stars from my heating pad, and lifetime achievement awards in creative problem-solving.

Some days my victories don’t come with thousands of steps.

Some days they look like getting dressed, making coffee, laughing anyway, and refusing to let my body have the final word.

And honestly…

I think those count, too.
